The Canadian dollar (CAD) is the official currency of Canada. One Canadian dollar is equal to 100 cents. In 2007, the Canadian dollar was the 7th most actively traded currency in the world. The existing banknote denominations are 5, 10, 25, 50 and 100 Canadian dollars.

Starting in 2011, the Bank of Canada began issuing polymer banknotes in circulation: the 100 dollar note began circulation on November 15, 2011, the 50 dollar note began circulation on March 26, 2012, the 20 dollar note began circulation on November 7, 2012, and the 5 and the 10 dollar notes began circulation on November 12, 2013. Besides, the new «plastic» Canadian dollar notes have smell of maple syrup; they can also melt under direct sunlight.

On the front side of the Canadian dollar there are portraits of some prominent political figures of Canada, the reverse side pictures some scenes from the life of the country.
