The Polish zloty (PLN) is the official currency of Poland. One zloty is equal to 100 groszy. Initially, one zloty was subdivided into 30 groszy and was equal to a half of the kopa. Since 1924, it is subdivided into 100 groszy.
The existing banknote denominations in circulation are 10, 20, 50, 100, 200 zlotys and the coins are 1, 2 and 5 zlotys, and 1, 2, 5, 10 and 20 groszy.
On the front side of the 10 zloty note there is a portrait of Prince Mieszko I, who lived in the early IX century. Mieszko I is considered the founder of the Polish state. On the reverse side there is an image of a silver denar coin minted in those days. The 20 zloty note is devoted to the son and the successor of Mieszko I — Boleslaw I the Brave, the reverse side pictures a Silver denar coin during his reign. The 50 zloty note has an image of Casimir III the Great, who lived in the XIII century. The reverse side depicts his regalia: the sceptre, the globus cruciger and the White Eagle from the royal seal. The 100 zloty note pictures Wladyslaw II Jagiello, Duke of Lithuania who ruled the Grand Duchy of Lithuania (the late XIV — the early XV century). The reverse side pictures the trophies of the Battle of Grunwald — the coats of the Teutonic Knights and the Grunwald Swords. The 200 zloty note depicts Sigismund I, King of Poland, known as the patron of culture and the reformer. The reverse side depicts the eagle against the Sigismund’s Chapel in Krakow.
